Inner Demons

(2014) 86min

Sometimes when searching for new movies to watch, you come across some hidden gems. One day I was browsing through NETFLIX and I came across a movie that I had no idea existed. This movie was called, Inner Demons directed by Set Grossman and written by Glenn Gers. It was nominated by the Los Angeles Film Festival for the LA Muse Award in 2014.

The official plot of this movie is that it follows an “intervention” –style reality show crew that films an episode about a sixteen-year old girl, former A-Student, who is fighting addiction but may in fact be suffering from something even more destructive: Demonic Possession. The movie is an inquiry into the truth about her – with symptoms  that straddle the disturbing and scary intersection between insanity, addiction and true possession.

When I first found this movie, I had no idea that it was a “found footage” style of movie. I must say that I was really impressed with the way this movie turned out. Most movies these days are done very cheaply and sometimes that are just complete rubbish, well this movie def doesn’t go that rubbish route. I will say the lead actress in this movie has a bright career ahead of her in the movie industry.

FFW: The reason that INNER DEMONS is a found footage movie is due to the fact that it kind of blurs the lines between a reality show and also a first hand encounter of possession. The camera crew takes its time to get to know the specimen who happens to be an attractive teenager. The found footage aspect of this would be that the footage was never released to the public until now. Throughout the movie there are cuts from where it could a blogger and also a documentary. For once, those lines kind of come together and quite honestly, they pull it off flawlessly.

FT: As a fan of found footage, I was highly impressed with the way things turned out. I absolutely loved this movie. There wasn’t a dull moment within the film at all. It kept your attention and had a very good pace to it. It also shows a different side of a camera crew. We normally don’t get to see the behind the scenes with any reality shows out there, but this one by far, shows exactly what goes on behind the scenes. People with conscience have a voice and can decide to quit if they don’t agree with something. This is what I did like about the movie, there are different sides to every story and these movies “within” a movie def shows that people are real people. I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone who is a fan of the found footage genre and/or horror movies. I give it a solid 4.8/5 Stars
